Simple Rice Pilaf

I love simple and basic recipes. This rice pilaf recipe is truly a workhorse in my kitchen.  Whenever I have leftover vegetables, I will make this pilaf the next day and throw them in. The kids love to sprinkle grated cheese on the top of their rice pilaf. Depending on what else we are having for dinner, I may add garlic powder and soy sauce and if we are looking for something sweeter, we add golden raisins with just a touch of orange zest.

Adding chopped sauteed mushrooms to the recipe will make a very filling delicious pilaf. When your pilaf is finished, toss some slivered almonds, chopped pistachios, pecans or walnuts on top for a crunchy finish.

There are endless flavor combination possibilities for rice pilaf. It is easy to make and always looks fancier than regular rice. My family always think I worked extra hard on dinner when we have pilaf. You can usually find this dish on our holiday tables because it is so beautiful.

With the ingredients that you have on hand, let your imagination run a little wild and create your own amazing dishes with your favorite flavor combinations.
